I found a pile of mirrors with really wide frames at the charity shop this week. I prefer the aesthetic of a wider frame for decoupaging piece of comic books onto them as you can still follow the story. 

A pot of ModPodge and a pile of old annuals later...

I also picked up a few picture frames so have worked some revamp magic with those too. The foxes come from a Dandy annual but I used a few sheets of origami paper to create the patchwork effect. I love the combination on the patterns and colours.

Love the Weekend!

Ah this weekend is definitely a good one! My gorgeous sister and family are down visiting from London, it's my friend Becca's birthday and all systems are go at CFQ!!

I had fun picking a new outfit out from my rail of clothes for my display mannequin this morning. I've gone with one of my handmade tops, a cute sailor collar and some revamped shorts! What do you think?? I know its the end of October but it's warm inside!

Yesterday I thought it would be fun to get the ol' spray paint out and re-do a frame that I've had kicking round the house for ages. It was a gordy gold and not very appealing; much better now!

I made a birthday handbag for Rebecca too! Craftster have some awesome tutorials on making things and I used this one as a guide for the bag. I cut up a beautiful old pillowcase and found some plain bright cotton for the lining.

Also at CFQ this week I revamped a lamp with a couple of pretty braids and I painted a few arrows on the door showing people the way!

I'm on a Roll.

This week has been all about being a crafting machine! I've been sewing some new clothes (which I'll share in a later post), making more hair accessories, revamping picture frames and stitching up some new felt badges! Also as the boyf is out of work kinda at the moment I've taken on some permanent hours at the t-shirt printers I've been doing odd work for throughout the summer.

I love old tin toys from the 1950's, especially robots and spaceships, so this is my homage to the tin spaceship in felt and of course follow by a good ol' cuppa tea.

I used one of my favourite annuals to revamp a picture frame. I found a pile of old frames in the local charity shop that had lovely wide frames perfect for showing off the comic strips.

More you say! Well yes I have loads of space to fill :) I do enjoy making batches of hairclips, I've got some great ideas for some more doing something a bit different too. Watch this space.

 

 

The grand openingof CFQ is next Saturday and there's loads of things going on. There'll be music and live walkabout performances going on so if you're in the area come and say hello!
 

You've Been Framed

So this week has been more about looking after the cat and getting him sorted. My sister's cat Zorro came to stay with us about 5 weeks ago and after 3 days managed to escape out the cat flap and that was the last we saw of him for 4 1/2 weeks! He'd come down from London and people kept saying maybe he'd tried to go home which wasn't helpful! But he was sat on the kitchen table last Saturday morning when I got up. We've been to the vets quite a lot this week getting him checked out and sorted with antibiotics and painkillers; he had a weird limp :(

So in between all that chaos there's been a slowing down on the craft front. I have managed a few bits so I thought I'd share them now whilst enjoying a lazy Sunday at home.

I picked up some old annuals for the Green Living Festival workshop that I took part in a few weeks ago and had a brainwave of other fun things I could do. My first project for them was picture frames. So I got the ol' Mod Podge and Stanley knife out the box and set down in front of the telly yesterday having a fun Saturday play afternoon!

I used a pack of cheap Ikea frames that I'd picked up ages ago ( one of those stupid shopping moments when you don't want to come away empty handed; yes I realise I'm being a slave to consumerism). They had a good wide frame though which I thought would be better for showing off the comic strips.

I used the craft blade to cut around the edge of the comics and shape them to the frame. I used the Mod Podge to stick the strips and to varnish over the top. The one I have leaves a lovely matte finish but you can get others in different finishes. It's good that you can finally get it in the UK, I've always seen so many lovely projects on crafster.org using the stuff and have always wanted some; pretty  pleased with the results so far.

Finished frames. I ended up making four different ones; it was great that they used to use different colours for the two colour prints to keep the annual interesting and define different stories.

There was a final story in one of the books that had a full colour 'Tarzan Jane' story that I couldn't resist using too.

After my last embroidery piece I wanted to do another screen print/ embroidery mix up. This time I used the carousel horse repeat that I'd printed onto a pink and white polka dot fabric.

I think it needs just a tad more before its finished but I thought I'd share anyways :)
